An email subject line generator takes a draft subject line and returns alternative versions optimised for open rates, readability and spam avoidance. You provide the creative brief; the generator produces variations to choose from, adapt or feed into an A/B test. Choose 3 suggestions for a quick shortlist, 5 for a standard split-test pool, or 10 for the broadest selection to review.

Why this matters

Writing one subject line is easy. Writing three or four strong variants for an A/B test — each different enough to generate useful data — is harder. A subject line generator removes the blank-page problem. It gives you a pool of alternatives in seconds, so you spend your time selecting and refining rather than drafting from nothing. Generated suggestions also surface phrasings you might not reach on your own. The AI varies tone, personalisation, urgency framing and emoji use across suggestions, which means the pool often includes at least one option that reads differently enough to test meaningfully against your original. And when a subject line scorer flags your draft as too spammy, a generator gives you somewhere to go next — alternatives built to avoid the same triggers.

How it works

1

Enter your draft subject line

Type or paste the subject line you have — even a rough draft works. The generator uses it as the creative brief for all alternatives.
2

Choose how many suggestions to generate

Select 3, 5 or 10. Three gives a focused shortlist; 10 gives the broadest pool for review.
3

Generate and review

The AI generates alternatives that aim to preserve the intent of your draft while varying the phrasing, tone and structure.
4

Score and select

Paste any suggestion into the subject line scorer to check it for spam words, length and readability before committing to it.

What to watch for

  • Score each suggestion before using it. Generated subject lines are not guaranteed to be spam-free. Run each one you are considering through the subject line scorer to confirm it clears the main signals.
  • Check personalisation tokens match your platform. Suggestions may include [FNAME] tokens. Confirm your email service provider uses the same merge tag format, or replace [FNAME] with your platform’s equivalent (e.g. {{first_name}}).
  • Verify emoji rendering across clients. Some suggestions include emojis. Check that they render correctly in your primary send clients — certain Unicode ranges are stripped or misrendered by some email clients.
  • Review for brand voice. AI suggestions match the intent of your draft but may not match your brand tone. Review each suggestion before adding it to a campaign.

FAQs

The generator takes your draft subject line as the creative brief and produces alternatives that vary the phrasing, tone, personalisation and structure while preserving the original intent. It is designed to avoid common spam trigger words and keep character counts within typical mobile display limits.
No — generated suggestions should be scored before sending. The AI is optimised to avoid spam triggers, but the only way to confirm a subject line is clean is to run it through the subject line scorer. That takes seconds and is worth doing for every suggestion you plan to use.
Three is enough for a quick A/B test when you need two strong variants and a backup. Five gives a good pool to shortlist from. Ten is useful when you are building a library for a recurring campaign — monthly newsletters, re-engagement flows — and want the broadest selection to test across multiple sends.
You can use them directly if they pass the scorer and match your brand voice. Most suggestions are ready to use, but review each one for tone and personalisation token compatibility with your email platform before committing to it.
This guide covers the full workflow — generating, scoring and selecting subject lines for A/B tests, and building a rotating library for recurring campaigns. Pair it with the subject line scorer guide for a complete pre-send subject line review process.
